I am an artist and I submitted some music, but I have not heard back yet…

First of all, thank you so much for submitting your music to us! Your music is vital to the growth of Playtunes Music and we want to make sure we give our full attention to every artist. We get a lot of music every week and we listen to everything, so please give us at least two to three weeks to get back to you.

Why didn’t my music make it into the Playtunes Music catalogue?

Playtunes Music strives to offer the best quality of production and song writing from independent artists around the world. Here are some possible reasons your music was not chosen:

• Production quality did not meet our standards.
• The song writing in your tracks did not meet our standards.
• We have too many tracks in the genre you are submitting.
• We do not take cover songs, all music must be original.

How do artists get paid?

Whether your music gets used or not you get paid! Artists as a whole get 35% of the gross income from subscriptions. You (the Individual artist) receive a percentage of that 35% based on how much music you have with Playtunes Music. In other words, the more music you have with Playtunes Music the more money you get. If royalties are generated you receive 100% writers and 50% publishing. For more information please click here.

US Residents: Payments will be send via check or Pay Pal
Non-US Residents: Payments can only be transferred through Pay Pal

What qualifications does my music need to meet?

• Good production value
• Good composition
• Solid performances
• Clean recording/mix
• Vocals must be on pitch
• No sampling of other tunes
• Music must be original (no covers) public domain is fine
• Midi sounds are ok as long as the samples sound good

What quality do my recording’s need to be?

We require your tracks to be high (CD) quality: 44.1K, 24 bit and submitted on a CD. No hissing, buzzing, dropouts or other unintentional flaws.

What happens when my music gets used?

Playtunes Music licenses music through subscriptions: all licenses under subscriptions are the same: non-exclusive, blanket, worldwide in all media. You will receive your percentage of the subscription quarterly. If your music is aired on a TV program, you will receive royalties.

What can Playtunes Music’s customers do with my music?

Clients can use the music they have downloaded as many times as they want, as long as they are a subscriber. They can use them non-exclusively in all media worldwide.

All of Playtunes Music can be used on: TV, advertising/commercials, feature films, video games, short films, radio and internet.

Can I control and approve when and where my music gets used?

No, sorry. in the Playtunes Music artist agreement, artists allow Playtunes Music to license non-exclusively in all media worldwide to anyone willing to pay money for it. The agreement pre-clears all of your songs with us. It’s important to create less hassle for our clients, therefore pre-clearing all licenses makes it much more inviting for people to come to us for music.

What rights do I give Playtunes with my music when I sign the agreement?

You give Playtunes Music the right to license your music non-exclusively in all media worldwide for a licensing fee determined by Playtunes. You agree to keep your music with us for a minimum period of one year. You retain all ownership, rights and masters.

How do I remove my music from Playtunes?

If you want your music to be removed from Playtunes, you will have to send us an email with the names of the tracks you would like to remove. Please give us 2-3 weeks to process your request.

What is a CAE/IPI#?

The CAE/IPI# is a unique identification number assigned to you as a writer by your PRO society (BMI, ASCAP, SESAC). It is important that you send us your CAE/IPI# to insure that you get your royalties. If you are unsure of what your number is please visit one of the following links. If you’re outside the US, you need to find out what your country’s PRO company is.
BMI ASCAP SESAC

Can I split my payments to other people?

No, we pay one person. You’re responsible for distributing payments yourself. It would get very complicated and time consuming of we had to worry about more than one person for every piece of music.

Can I submit songs that have co-writers?

Yes, you may submit songs with co-writers as long as we can obtain signatures from them. Co-writers include the rights to the master and/or the publishing. We do not accept cover songs or songs that have co-writers who do not give permission.

As an artist what information do I need to give you?

US citizens: We will need your Social Security number (for tax purposes), Pay Pal email address and personal address/contact info you filled out when creating an account.

Non-US citizens: You will need to fill out a W-8 BEN form, click here to fill one out. Please sign and send in via email in a PDF or through regular mail. You will also need to give us your Pay Pal email address.

How do I make sure I will collect my BMI/ASCAP/SECAC etc… royalties?

All you need to do is register your tracks with your PRO company as they are named in your account. You will see a number before your track name. For instance “7899 Under the Edge” register your tracks with the number in front.
